Cost & insurance
Know your cost before your first session
Use your insurance or see us as a self-pay client. Either way, we’ll confirm what you’ll pay before you start, so there are no surprises.
At a glance
Two ways to be seen
Every session is 50 minutes, by secure video or phone. Here’s what it costs either way.
Option 1
Self-pay
Pay per session, with no insurance paperwork.
$100–$250per 50-minute session, depending on your therapist
- Free 15-minute consultation first
- Sliding-scale spots for those who need them
- A Good Faith Estimate before you start
Option 2
Insurance
Use your health plan. What you pay depends on your plan’s copay or coinsurance.
- California:Aetna, Cigna, Medi-Cal, Optum, UnitedHealthcare
- Illinois:Aetna, BCBS PPO, Cigna, Illinois Medicaid, Optum, UnitedHealthcare
- New York:Aetna, Cigna, Optum, UnitedHealthcare
Coverage also depends on your therapist. We’ll check your benefits for you.
Self-pay rates
$100–$250 per 50-minute session
Your rate depends on the therapist you see. Every service, from individual to family therapy, uses the same 50-minute session.
- Your first step is a free 15-minute consultation, so you can ask questions before you commit to anything.
- Unless otherwise arranged, payment is due at the time of service.
- Before you start, you’ll get a Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs.
How often you come shapes your monthly cost. Most clients start weekly or every other week, and you’ll set the pace with your therapist and revisit it as therapy goes on.
Sliding scale
A portion of our practice is set aside for sliding-scale clients. If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out and tell us about your situation. We’re glad to talk it through.
How to ask
Bring it up on your free 15-minute call, or reach us at (310) 853-3128 or intake@soulstice.io.
Insurance by state
Coverage depends on your state and your therapist. These are the plans we accept today. What you pay depends on your plan’s copay or coinsurance.
| Plan | California | Illinois | New York |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aetna | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted |
| Cigna | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted |
| Optum | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted |
| UnitedHealthcare | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted | ✓ accepted |
| BCBS PPO | – not accepted | ✓ accepted | – not accepted |
| Illinois Medicaid | – not accepted | ✓ accepted | – not accepted |
| Medi-Cal | ✓ accepted | – not accepted | – not accepted |
Don’t see your plan? You can still see us as a self-pay client, and we keep some sliding-scale spots for those who need them.
Checking your benefits
You don’t have to figure out your coverage alone. We’ll check it for you.
-
Reach out
Book a free 15-minute call, email intake@soulstice.io, or call (310) 853-3128, and tell us which plan you have.
-
We check your coverage
Coverage depends on your state, your plan, and your therapist, so we check it for the therapist you’d be seeing.
-
You know your cost before you start
We confirm your coverage before your first session, so there are no surprises.
Prefer to ask your plan yourself?
Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
- Are video (telehealth) sessions covered?
- What is my copay or coinsurance per session?
- Do I have a deductible, and how much of it is left this year?
Good Faith Estimate
If you don’t have insurance or aren’t using it, you have the right under federal law to a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost.
- You can get a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
- You should receive it in writing at least 1 business day before your service. You can also ask for one before you schedule.
- If your bill is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Save a copy or a photo of your Good Faith Estimate.

Payment and cancellation
- When payment is due
- Unless otherwise arranged, payment is due at the time of service.
- Cancelling
- We ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel an appointment. That notice can help another client get an appointment.
- Late cancellations and missed sessions
- If 24 hours’ notice isn’t given, or you miss an appointment, you may be charged the full fee for your session. We won’t charge your account until we’ve spoken with you about the missed session.
